How to Create a Mailing List

Email Marketing is a fundamental part of marketing automation and digital marketing in general. Acquiring leads typically means collecting email addresses, although leads can also be in other forms, and a mailing list is an invaluable resource. Once you have collected email addresses, you are able to actively reach out to those people and build a relationship with them even after they have left your web site with no plans to ever return.

This whole process of engaging and relationship building results in higher conversions and more sales (or some other goal you aim for), and it can be easily automated. To begin collecting email leads, you need to create a mailing list.

Requirements

To create a mailing list you will need:

  • A Womplify account – free signup here!
  • An Email address to use as the From & Reply-To address (can be different) when you send an email to your list.

Note: You can create multiple mailing lists for more targeted niches or segmenting your lists. For example if you are a pre-launch Startup and wish to collect email addresses of visitors to your pre-launch landing page, you can create a mailing list specifically for that and then create another list for those pre-launch subscribers who later convert to actual customers or even trial users.

How to Create a List

To create a new mailing list:

  1. On the left menu, click Audience and then click Lists (see Figure 2).
  2. At the bottom left of the Lists box, click the + button.
  3. In the Create List popup, fill in the details of your mailing list:
    Field Name Description
    Name An internal name for your list which only you will see.
    Title The public name for your list which subscribers will see.
    Description The description of your list.
    From Email The sender address used when emailing to subscribers.
    From Name The sender name used when emailing to subscribers.
    Reply-To Email The address where replies will be sent.
    Auto-Post Interval The delay between sequenced message mailings.
    Auto-Post Interval Type The delay type.
    Auto-Post Specific Time (Coming soon)
    Confirm The page subscribers will be sent to on your site after verifying their email address.
    Thanks The page subscribers will be sent to on your site after first subscribing, before confirming.
    Error The page subscribers will be sent to on your site if there is an error during subscribing.
    Goodbye The page subscribers will be sent to on your site when they unsubscribe.
    Default List? One list must be defined as Default
    List State Define this list as Active or Inactive.
  4. Click Create. Your new list will appear in the Lists box.

Now you can start collecting email addresses, either through a simple subscribe form on your site or you can use the API to directly add email addresses or leads to your mailing list.
